From an economic view, making a cartel makes sense. The reason is because of the money profit. I found that because when selling oxycodone, if you lose 50% of the profit, you would still get 8,000,000$ yearly. Someone will do it if a more significant amount of money is to be made. It’s the same thing as selling phones or clothes, but in selling drugs, the harder they are to get, the more money there is to be made. As the price rises, so does the demand for something. Like stocks, the prices go up and down depending on a variable of x. Cartels examine if there is a more significant demand for something and how much money will be made. I would like to look more at the economic standpoint of drugs. I would also like to get more people's opinions on drugs instead of hearing the same thing most schools tell you. “That if you do any type of drug, you will die.” I think we should tell kids more about the more dangerous drugs that there are and which are safer to use. That's my opinion, though. Realistically we should target younger groups than high schoolers and middle schoolers. The reason behind that is because of the ages between 12-17, 40% of them are known drug and alcohol users, according to SMAHAS. This shows that most of the people we are trying to target have already used drugs and have their set opinions on them. If we want our no drug campaigns to work, we must target a younger age group. If we talk to a younger age group, we could have a higher chance of them not abusing drugs/alcohol and or preventing overdoses, but I can’t say for sure, but we shouldn’t say don’t take it at all, or you will die, but we also shouldn’t say take whatever you will be fine. I think we should talk about the significant risks of a drug because there are some drugs you shouldn’t take at all, and I think those are the ones we should talk more about. In addition, my opinion of this class. To be honest this class was very interesting because I got to see others' views of drugs and others. I had fun learning no things. As for my opinion of drugs, you can do whatever you like but stay away from the more lethal drugs like fentanyl. But overall my opinions don't matter too much to you in the end because it’s your choice and not mine. If you have heard of Icarus' story you would know he ignored his dad's warning to not to go too close to the sun and once he got to close his wings melted away which caused him to fall to his demise. As Icarus had pushed his wings to the limit, it goes for your body when using something that can harm it. This little segment goes into my views on the U.S drug problems. As for what I have seen and heard from others, most people get hooked on drugs for one reason or another. Some of the reasons are they liked the feeling they got from the drug and another one I heard was people use it to forget something. But as for the problem in the U.S. it’s caused by many factors such as the legality of it, the cartels, and drug users. To point all this out I am going to make a scenario. So say someone makes a new drug that helps stimulate your brain (“Nootropic” cognitive enhancers are to improve your memory and other things from what I read) they call it NTropic. It’s a new drug that enhances the hippocampus, the neo-cortex and the amygdala areas of your brain. This drug has very little test done to it. They start selling it for x amount of money in stores you don’t have to have a prescription to buy it. People start to buy them and people seem to think it’s very helpful and more people buy them. Over y amount of years they have found that this drug is very addictive and can be very dangerous if you take the wrong amount of pills. So overtime they get the law passed that you now have to buy NTropic with a prescription but the problem you have now is that there are z amount of people addicted to NTropic and have no way to get their pill that they feel they need. Now you are having people draw which could have terrible effects on them. But not only that you now have a new market opened up. This market is empty. There’s so far no one in it and sense people are addicted to it and it’s very addictive there’s x amount of money to make. If there’s money to be made someone will do the job no matter how dangerous it is. As there’s lots of money to be made you now have to deal with cartels coming in and selling these drugs illegal. This scenario reminds me of Pandora's box because there was an underlying problem in the jar that didn’t show up till it was opened. This is almost an endless cycle. There will always be a problem with drugs because if you don’t ban them there’s overdose but the governments get the money, but if you make them illegal there’s still overdose but maybe less than before but the money’s going to the cartels. There’s never a real win, win serco in most cases but you can maybe pull a draw if you play your cards right. I’m not sure how to do that, maybe someone else does.
