In “Pit and Pendulum” the protagonist had time to escape. The reason is the pendulum would hit him but he got out at 72.84 seconds before it hit the spot he was in. The thing that affected the pendulum was the length of the string or chain on the pendulum. To figure that out we measure the length, weight, and angle. We found the length to change the most. Then we made a curve fit of the point and got the equation .32 square root of x. Plug in for x with 360 which equals 6.07 per swing. Then 6.07x12=72.84. So he had time to escape the pendulum.
